Textile dye process experiments, public presentation, and artist lecture in the context of a short residency with Amsterdam and Hague-based artists, Daisy Madden-Wells and Lucy Cordes Engelman.
Artist lecture: a 45 minute presentation of early examples of the bleach-white bedsheet being used as a ghost costume in Spiritualist photography, theater performance, at Halloween holidays, and in TV cartoons, touching on the introduction of the first personal-use camera (the Kodak Brownie), white textile as a stand-in for the disembodied spirit, and why we’ve never seen a ghost in a chintz floral.
